Sponsors Needed For Hot Air Balloon Fundraiser
.JPG) SEBRING -- Following a very successful spring event, officials of the Boys & Girls Club of Highlands County have announced a "Fall Classic Balloon Fest."
"We had so many people who wanted to participate in the March event that we thought we'd try it again in the fall," said organizer Pam Mooney. "Also, the winds should be more favorable."
Those taking a ride in a hot air balloon were simply thrilled with the experience, some comparing it to a "magic carpet ride," as the lighter than air craft drifted wistfully over Higlands County. Passengers said it was a unique view of the area.
The fall event is slated for Nov. 14 and 15. Again, it will be held on the grounds of the Sebring International Raceway with as many as two dozen hot air balloons slated to attend.
"Remax has scheduled not one, but two of their balloons as part of the fall event," Mooney said, looking down the schedule of events.
In fact a number of the same aeronauts who participated in March will be back again for the November event, with a number of the same features. A "sunset balloon ride" will be offered beginning at 3:00 Friday afternoon, followed by a balloon glow.
"Because there will be a earlier sunset, that will enable us to have a ride, then turn around and set everything up for the balloon glow," Mooney said.
Just as with the spring event, tether rides on some of the balloons are planned, there will be food vendors, raffles, kids games and music from DJ Geo.
"Booking for balloon rides has just begun, so there are plenty of seats available, we also have room for sponsorships at all levels," Mooney said.
Two flights are planned, the evening "Sunset Balloon Ride" as well as the "Sunrise Ride" scheduled for Saturday morning. Either ride comes at $250, with the procedes to go to the Boys & Girls Club of Highlands County.
"In addition to those who will be riding, we are expecting a big crowd of spectators -- watching more than 20 balloons take to the sky at the same time is really a sight to see," she said.
Those wanting additional information on the event can contact Mooney at 863-465-4092 or Gina Bexley at 863-202-0245.
